Al-Shabab fighters killed by SNA in AMISOM ambush

Three al-Shabab fighters were killed on Wednesday by the Somali National Army (SNA) with support from the African Union troops in the country (AMISOM).

The joint team of security operatives were on a routine patrol in the Abdalla-Biroole area when they ambushed the insurgents, AMISOM reported through its official Twitter handle.

The AU force re-emphasized its commitment to partner the SNA to rid Somalia of al-Shabab and to restore peace and security.

Earlier in the day, AMISOM has tasked all nationals home and abroad to participate in peacekeeping initiatives as the country prepares to go to the polls.

AMISOM stated that peaceful polls in the Horn of Africa nation would mark a victory against the militants and also a victory for the African Union and the international community.

Meanwhile, the AU special representative on Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira has called on the international community to help the country to conduct peaceful polls as planned.
