Somali National Forces and Amisom troops capture Mahaday district


Somali government forces backed by AU peacekeeping troops have today captured Mahaday district, in southern Somali region of Middle Shabelle region, according to the district of governor Sharif Abukar.

Sharif Abukar further added that Mohamud Koronto was leading the troops who have taken over the town.

Confirming the incident, locals told Bar-kulan that the joint troops advance to the town without facing any resists.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab militant have reportedly vacated the town after hearing joint troop’s advance.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamed who recently visited regional capital Jowhar stated that government forces together with Amisom troops will soon wipe Al-Shabaab militant group away from the rest of the region.

Al-Shabaab rebel group lost major towns and villages in many parts of southern Somalia since Al-Shabaab retreated from the Somali capital in Mogadishu in 2011.
