The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), which represents over 500 journalists across Somalia, welcomes the historic decision by the Steering committee of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), the regional body of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to send a mission to Somalia on their meeting in Abuja, Nigeria on 28 September 2013.
Somali journalists, who work in one of the world’s most dangerous countries to be a journalist, were delighted about the FAJ decision to send a mission to Somalia to see and learn the situation of on the ground.
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) will provide and facilitate any assistance requested by the mission during their stay in Somalia.
“On behalf of the Somali journalists, I am delighted and welcome the historic decision of the Federation of the African Journalists (FAJ) and welcome the commitment of the Federation’s leadership in strengthening and improving the unions in the African continent.”
Mohamed Ibrahim, NUSOJ Secretary-General said, “The Mission’s visit to Somalia will help strengthen NUSOJ’s cooperation with the sister unions in Africa.”
