His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today welcomed the new IGAD Special Envoy to Somalia and expressed his gratitude for the organisation’s support in the country’s ongoing recovery.
Ambassador Mohammed Abdi Afey travelled to Mogadishu on his first visit to Somalia since his appointment last December. During a courtesy call on the President he emphasized IGAD’s commitment to support the government’s vision to bring peace, stability and development to Somalia.
“I thank IGAD for its whole-hearted support of Somalia during difficult times,” the President said. “IGAD is a valued friend and partner. Ambassador Afey brings a particularly acute understanding of the situation and priorities of Somalia as it continues its journey from conflict to recovery and development. We look forward to enhancing this productive partnership in the months and years ahead.”
