Somali independent media house association has condemned the murder of the award winning Somali journalist Yusuf Ahmed Abukar famously known as Yusuf Keynan who was killed in Mogadishu on Saturday morning.
Yusuf when an explosive device believed to have been planted in his car exploded killing him on the sport.
The chairman of Somali Independent Media House Association Hassan Ali Gesey has urged the federal government of Somalia to immediately investigate the killing while bringing to book those responsible for the monstrous act.
“It is very sad that we continue lose very professionals like Yussuf everyday and killers escape from justice,” He said
“We are calling upon the federal government of Somalia to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the heinous act,” he added.
Mr. Gesey also called upon the government to put in place measures to protect the Somali journalists in order to stop targeted killings meted against the professionals in the country.
“We need to bring new security measures in place to protect the endangered Somali journalists,” he said.
Yusuf who was among the winners of 2013 Somali Media Awards worked for Mustaqbal radio, a privately owned radio based in Mogadishu and Ergo radio, a humanitarian radio station based in Kenyan capital Nairobi.
Yusuf is the second journalist who was killed in line of duty this year.
Somalia is characterized as one of the most dangerous environment for journalists to operate.
