Al shabaab has released a new video showing a Uganda soldier held as prisoner of war following Janale base attack which took place in September last year.
In the new video, the seized UPDF soldier Masassa M.Y. has urged the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni and his government to set him free from Al shabaab militants.
Masassa M.Y. was a serviceman under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM since June, 2015 before being captured as prisoner of war by Al shabaab in September, 2015 at Janale base.
Uganda has lost over 50 its soldiers in a massive Al shabaab attack on AMISOM base in Janale last year, the highest death toll since UPDF troops deployed in Somalia in 2007.
The government of Ugandan has said last week it will rescue all its soldiers held as hostages by Al shabaab, the Al Qaeda-linked militants in Somalia.
UPDF makes the bulk of troops in the African Union Mission in Somalia, who are helping the UN-backed federal government of Somalia in the fight against Al shabaab fighters.
