Former Somali ambassador to Kenya and current presidential aspirant Mohamed Ali Ameriko called an immediate end to the ongoing fighting in Galkayo city on Saturday.
Ali Ameroko has urged the two brotherly Galmudug and Puntland states to bring the deadly clashes in Galkayo city in central Somalia to an end and opt for peaceful coexistence.
Mr Ameriko stressed the need for urgent mediation in the conflict between Galmudug Puntland administrations and subsequent peace talks, to solve the recurrent clashes in the town of Galkayo.
“In my last visit to Galmudug and Puntland, I met peace-loving people in both regions. It is unfortunate to hear a battle renewed in Galkayo town,” he added.
Galkayo fighting has led to the deaths of over 11 people, while thousands fled their houses as the clashes between the troops from the warring sides continued for the fourth consecutive day.
Mohamed Ali Ameriko, the presidential candidate has been paying historic visits to Unites states of America (USA) and Canada, where he met with Somali community.
Mr. Ali Ameriko is vying for president in crucial presidential elections in Somalia that is scheduled to take place in November 30, 2016.
